United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC) will have its first congress in April 2005 at EXCO convention halls. UCLG is the united organization of three former international local government associations; International Union of Local Authorities, Federation Mondiale des Cites Unies, and Metropolis. These three organizations agreed to unite themselves to make into one in Paris last May, thus establishing UCLG.

United Nations, International Council for Local Environmental Relations (ICLEI) and Korean government ministries and agencies will fully back this congress.
The main topic of Daegu congress is ‘Glocalization for the Future’. Participants are expected to participate in very practical and constructive discussion under five sub-topics; local globalization, e-governance, local autonomy, cooperation among Asia-Pacific local governments, and urban development strategies. About 110 local government leaders from 20 Asia-Pacific countries will visit Daegu to attend this event, including 16 Korean mayors and governors. Academic scholars and international organization staffs also will be attending Daegu Congress. Some United Nations officials and researchers from related institutions will participate in as keynote speakers or panelists. As an organizer of the congress, along with Daegu city, EXCO is expecting to have one more valuable opportunity to expand its ability to run a unique international convention attended by government leaders.
