| EXCO's
representative exhibitions |
Start
of the Daegu Convention & Visitors Bureau (DCVB) |
- Designated as a policy
exhibition of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and
Energy, DAMEX received 0.2 billion won in government
subsidy
- Co-hosted the exhibition with KOTRA and many overseas
buyers participated |
DAMEX 2003 is designated as one of three policy exhibitions
of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and
it is expected that the size and the quality of the
exhibition will expand. DAMEX 2003 is the fourth professional
industrial automatic machinery exhibition with products
ranging from various machinery and tools to high-tech
industrial robots thorough the automation industry.
It is sponsored by Daegu city and co-hosted by EXCO
and KOTRA.
DAMEX is one of the representative exhibitions of EXCO
with PID and DIOPS, and this year, it is planning to
host 20,000 domestic and overseas buyers, including
500 buyers from ten countries including Japan, China
and Singapore, thus expanding its overseas marketing.
More than 500 booths from 200 companies in the areas
of robots, NC, CNC, logistics systems, simple purpose
automatic M/C, flow systems, oil & air pressure
M/C, control measuring instruments, welding & spray
automations, CAD/CAM, information systems and environment
related machinery join DAMEX 2003. According to project
manager Kim Tae-sung of the EXCO exhibition team, In
the Daegu-Gyeongbuk area, there are 22 local industrial
complexes and a Kumi industrial complex, which is the
largest inland conglomerate of large, medium and small-size
companies in the semi-conductor, electronics and textile
industries, so a large market is formed related to automatic
machinery and tools. It will be a great marketing opportunity
for the participating companies due to the strategic
promotion by overseas buyers this year. DAMEX 2003 is
designated as a 2003 policy exhibition of the Ministry
of Commerce, Industry and Energy, and is supported by
overseas marketing expenses. In addition, because KOTRA
participates in the event as a co-host, it is expected
that at least 500 to 1,000 overseas buyers will join
the event. |

Daegu International Textile Trade Fair-Preview In Daegu |
- Promotional exhibition
with differentiated service
- Buyer-show, post online marketing, material sample
book, etc. |
Preview In Daegu is the title of the Daegu International
Textile Fair that boasts the biggest domestic exhibition
in the area of textile materials. This year¡¯s theme
is coexistence. More than 204 domestic and overseas
companies joined the exhibition with 478 booths, including
48 booths each for HYOSUNG and HUVIS, 24 KOLON booths,
12 SUNGAN booths and other large makers. The PID bureau
originally planned 510 booths, but it changed its original
plan to add a buyer-show booth to support buyers material
sourcing and to provide more room for exhibition hall
facilities, including a business consultation room,
a buyers¡¯ lounge, a coffee shop, and a trend room.
The PID bureau focused on upgrading the standards of
the exhibition as it introduced differentiated services
such as a buyer-show, post online marketing, material
sample book, among others. The buyer-show, which is
introduced for the first time in this exhibition, shows
the utility of the materials when they have been produced
as clothing, to ultimately lead to the real purchase
of the materials. This venue for buyers is located on
the 5th floor of the EXCO building during the exhibition
period. The PID bureau also concentrates on discovering
export opportunities for the participating companies
and provides other services including a technology seminar
to address the study results of core materials for the
21st century's high-tech industry, in addition to a
color and materials trend booth. |

Daegu International Optical Show (DIOPS 2003) |
- Aims to obtain the
first international authentication among local exhibitions
- Focuses on hosting European and American buyers |
The Daegu International Optical show started its 2003
activities with the target of obtaining international
authentication from the Union of International Fairs
(UFI) for the first time among local exhibitions. There
were 233 companies that participated in the DIOSP 2002
from 11 countries and more than 10,000 people visited,
including 737 buyers from 50 countries (based on the
registration). The figures show a 10% increase of domestic
visitors and a 75% increase of foreign visitors. In
particular, export consultation through this exhibition
increased from 1.4 million dollars in 2001 to 1.6 million
dollars in 2002, while domestic consumption consultation
increased from 1.9 billion won to 4.3 billion during
the same period that the domestic eyewear market share
greatly increased. By March 2003, 510 booths from 130
domestic companies have already confirmed their participation
and 70 overseas booths will have been reserved. The
DIOPS bureau only plans to allocate 580 booths to the
domestic companies, even though more companies expressed
interest in participating in the exhibition, and 25%
of 170 booths will be allocated to overseas companies.
The DIOPS bureau focuses on preparing quality exhibitions
rather than focusing on its size as the third exhibition
to host more buyers with purchasing power. It also hopes
to run the exhibition with greater emphasis on the consultation.
According to the results of the analysis of 2002 buyers
by nations, 28% of the buyers came from China and 20%
of them came from Japan, which shows that the DIOPS
has built its place in the Asian market, and that there
is still room for more European or American involvement.
Focusing on this fact, the DIOPS bureau decided to focus
on targeting more American and European buyers as well
as hosting more powerful purchasers from Asia in 2003. |
