| Over
40 exhibitions held this year: well established special
exhibition center for |
PID:
Showing the successful model of a local specialized
industry
Daegu: Gravitating to the center of the world textile
industry |
 |
The Daegu International
Textile Fair (PID) is an international textile
materials exhibition that is one of the main exhibitions
of EXCO Daegu, meeting international standards
as it attracts 4,121 overseas buyers. One of PID's
main highlights is a business consulting opportunity
that is a center for receiving orders. Using a
material map for a business talk and planning
new materials that reflect recent fashion trends,
the exhibition increases a buyer's bargaining
power that almost always leads to an export opportunity. |
|
| It is noteworthy to note that, as Korea's representative
exhibition, PID is held in a local city but not in Seoul.
This is also in line with the purpose of establishing
EXCO Daegu as a strategic model to lead the balanced
development of local industries, as well as to decentralize
the economy. |
| |
Successfully held with 4,000 of foreign buyers attended
|
| held March 13 to 16, 2002. The opening ceremony
was well attended with over 300 guests, including
Korean Prime Minister Lee Han-dong, the Minister
of Industry and Resources Shin Kook-hwan, the
former Mayor of Daegu Moon Hi-gap, Gyeongbuk Provincial
Governor Lee Ui-geun, local textile industry figures,
exhibition professionals, buyers and other guests.
In particular, there were prominent overseas buyers
that visited the exhibition on the opening day,
including the vice president of Lotto Sports Intalia,
Corasina Mauricio, Arney Struck of Next Asia Hong
Kong, Mohamed Abuerara of Armico Commercial Egypt,
representatives of Polytex 99 Russia, all attesting
to the great success of the exhibition. On opening
day, over 4,000 domestic and overseas buyers visited
the exhibition hall, and most of the visitors
expressed satisfaction with the various exhibits.

Over
20,000 visitors from 75 countries, amounting to contracts
worth $723.3 million |
| Contracts made for domestic sales numbered 88,
with a total amount of 1 billion and 613 million
won. Business talks totaled 693, amounting to
7.8 billion won. During the four days of this
event, 20,000 visitors from 75 countries visited
the exhibition, and over $ 723 million won worth
of contracts were made. In addition, a total of
210 participants took part in successful business
talks that generated about $4 billion or 70,472
items, including an expected amount of domestic
and foreign contracts. Although this PID was the
1st exhibition of its kind, the great performance
is attributed to Daegu's fame in the textile industry,
making it easy for buyers to visit the actual
plants. The success of PID reflects the successful
localization of the exhibition industry. |
|
| |
Opened
an export outlet for the local textile industry |
| PID enabled Daegu to transform
itself from a manufacturing base of synthetic
textile into a center of marketing, allowing the
local textile industry to also transform into
a value-added industry. Moreover, PID became a
breeding ground in the development of competing
products, and as a service among producers, in
the areas of information exchange as well as knowledge
in terms of overseas buyers' preferences.
Many buyers showed keen interest in various exhibitions,
particularly artificial suede fabrics with ultra-fine
thread, which were most popular among American
and European buyers. The overall management of
the exhibition, including registration, guides,
interpretation, the operation of the general management
briefing room and other services were also appreciated
by the participants for their functions. For the
better future development of the International
Textile Fair, efforts must be made to develop
new products and technology as well as to attract
more overseas buyers and enterprises to the exhibition.
