Following the footsteps
of the JCI (Junior Chambers International) Asia
Pacific Conference, an international event of
an epic scale held in May 2001, Daegu EXCO has
grown to assume the role as the center of Daegu's
drive toward globalization. The World Cup matches,
one of the largest sports events in the world,
are scheduled for 2002 as well as the 2003 Summer
Universiade, regarded as second in importance
only to the Olympic Games. |

EXCO Daegu Be used for the Main Press Center
for the Universiade |
EXCO Daegu will be used as the
main press center for the 2003 Universiad. Roch
Campana, the president of the International University
Sports Federation, made an investigative visit
to Daegu on November 19, 2001. During his five-day
stay, Campana paid a visit to the EXCO Daegu .
Deeply impressed by the ultra modern facilities,
Campana confirmed that EXCO Daegu would also be
an appropriate venue for holding judo, fencing,
and Tae Kwon Do events. In addition to its role
as the venue for trade, education, and cultural
events, EXCO Daegu has broadened its functions
as a main press center and a sports facility.
Such Major events as the 2001 JCI Asia Pacific
Conference, 2002 World Cup Soccer matches, the
International Textile Fair, and the 2003 Summer
Universiade all center around EXCO Daegu.
Kang Choong, Vice President of EXCO Daegu, says
"the Sidney Convention Center was transformed
into the venue for fencing matches during the
Sidney Olympic Games in Australia. EXCO Daegu
will also expand its function as the site for
economic, cultural events as well as a sports
arena."
The 22nd Universiade, under the theme "Dream
for Unity", will host sports events in 13
categories including 10 main events in track,
basketball, fencing, gymnastics, swimming, soccer,
and volleyball as well as three optional events
in Tae Kwon Do, judo, and archery. |
