| Daegu SME Fair 2001 was held for four
days from April 19 through April 22, 2001 as part of
the program to commemorate the opening of EXCO Daegu.
A total of 315 companies from 10 nations submitted items
to the exhibition, which was visited by some 62,000
persons including 518 foreigners (420 buyers from 36
nations, 68 persons from 8 sister cities and other 30
foreign dignitaries).
The amount counseled for exports reached US$120 million,
expected amount of contract reached US$48 million,
amount counseled for domestic consumption was 13.2
billion won while expected amount of contract was
1.2 billion won. Companies participating in the booths
realized more success than in any other trade fairs
held in Korea.
For the Daegu SME Fair 2001, the region's strong
products of machinery accounted for 173 booths, textiles
82 booths and eyewear companies 74 booths while items
including auto parts, umbrellas and craftworks were
displayed.
Also taking part in the trade fair was Daegu Public
Relations Hall introducing the U Competition, World
Cup, Textile Exposition, and the area's tourist spots,
the Hall of Sister Cities introducing the culture
and industries of overseas sister cities, Chimeric,
the common brands of the area and the JCI Daegu Aspac
2001 to be held in May as well as a booth publicizing
the International Optical Show.
Other festivities include a marching band, nalmoe
drum dance performance, dance competition, sketch
contest, Digital Photo Zone, Extreme Sports Show,
traditional tea tasting session, sales of domestic
agricultural products and sampling session of okonomiyaki.
The Extreme Sports Show, in particular, won applause
with the showing of typical extreme sports of inline
skating, stunt bicycles (BMX) and skateboards. The
tea tasting session held in the lobby of the third
floor also played a role in publicizing our culture.
