| EXCO Daegu, the long-cherished
project of Daegu and North Kyongsang province,
has finally opened. Looking back, we have gone
through many difficulties including finding the
scarce funding due to the stagnant economy resulting
from the financial crisis that struck the nation
after the construction of the building began in
May of 1997. It was only through the tireless
toil of those concerned and the grace of Heaven
that EXCO Daegu was completed on schedule despite
the many hardships.
This year alone, over 20 exhibitions and conventions
are expected to be held including the successfully
held Daegu SME Fair 2001 (Daegu Small &
Medium Enterprise Trade Fair) and KOVEX 2001
(Korea Venture Industry Exhibition). JCI DAEGU
ASPAC 2001 (JCI Daegu Asia Pacific Conference
2001), Daegu's largest international event ever,
will also be held in May. In addition to Daegu's
specialized industries of textile and eyewear
products, which already possesses an international
competitive edge, EXCO Daegu will diversify
its range of exhibitions including the staging
of special exhibitions of agricultural and fisheries
products of the North Kyongsang region.
We, at the Daegu World Trade Center, will exert
our utmost efforts to enable EXCO Daegu to promote
the exports of local companies and to faithfully
perform the role of a conduit for ushering the
citizens toward the global village by continuing
to host specialized exhibitions, international
conferences and various events in diversified
fields. I take this opportunity to express my
gratitude to the central government, Daegu municipal
government, Daegu Chamber of Commerce, the media
and all those who have devoted their time and
energy in making EXCO Daegu what it is today.
