Daegu, a hub of such industrial cities as Pohang, Gumi, Changweon
and Gyeongju. It has been the center of local economy, industry,
physical distribution and education in the Yeongnam area.
To be a central city in the world in the coming 21st century,
Daegu invests much in the expansion of its infrastructure
and concentrates on the efficient urban planning and the development
of secondary centers around Daegu.
Due to improvements in the standard of living, privately-owned
vehicles are increasing and, consequently, new road construction
is going on and on.
We make a great effort to construct an effective road network
system and to expand roads to transport goods more rapidly.
We are constantly building new main streets, freeways, constructing
4 lane circulation roads, and building express highways to
connect east and west, north and south.
The Subway in Daegu is being constructed according to the
city's authorized plans and will be, no doubt, a very popular
means of transportation. Line1, which connects Wolbae and
Ansim, is already in service. Line 2, which connects Seongseo
and Gosan, will be completed in 2002. It is expected to enrich
the citizens' lives and make their dailytravels more convenient.
There are two railroad stations in Daegu, Daegu station
and Dongdaegu station. Daegu station is being reconstructed,
covering 141,620 §³ and is expected to be more comfortable
for citizens with convenient facilities, department stores,
and parking lots. Dongdaegu station will be a high-speed
transportation center which connecting high-speed railways,
national railways, airport and bus terminals. Also, a business
complex for information, finance, insurance and culture
will be constructed in and around the station.
As Daegu grows into an international city, the field of
air transportation will be dramatically changed. In order
to meet the increasing demand for overseas flights, regular
services to some Asian cities are already in operation.
Starting with connections to Osaka, Daegu plans to open
new routes to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Fukuoka, etc.
Fresh air and clear water are what the citizens are longing
for to live in a pleasant environment.
Across-the-board plans to improve the water quality of the
Nakdong river and the Keumho river were established and
are now in operation. The environment of Daegu becomes much
better by making the source of water supply clean, by an
adequate sewage disposal system, and by making efforts to
prevent the air pollution.
