Daegu of 21st century will be full of dream and hope.
We are planning to make Daegu the world-famous Mecca of
high-technology. We are planning to build Wichon National
Industrial Complex which will deal with environment and
bio-technology industry, and industrial technical research
town for both business and private residences.
Additionally, Daegu Logistics Complex(206 acres) at Geomdan-dong,
Buk-gu, will be the biggest one in Korea and will link
with domestic and foreign markets through international
airports, high-speed highways and railways. Many buyers
from around the world will conveniently visit there and
Daegu will be much more competitive. Especially, the Trade
Center in the Logistics Complex will have a trade pavilion,
an exhibition center, an international conference hall,
and accomodations, and make a great contribution to the
increase of exports. According to the project of Dongdaegu
Station area development scheduled to be completed by
2012, various modes of transportation such as highways,
state roads, airports, and bus terminals will be effectively
integrated, and central management complex will be built
with information and cultural facilities, etc.
Daegu will be developed as the central city of Yeongnam
area which has national highway networks and Korea high-speed
railways. Daegu international airport, which is connected
with important cities of the world and the waterfront
of the Nakdong River, will play an important role in
the development of Daegu. Especially, the sharp increase
of automobiles will be mitigated by the new subway system
with six lines which will make the traffic environment
much more convenient.
Completion of Jungang highway, construction of a direct
highway from Daegu to Pohang and Busan, electric railway
networks linking all the nearby cities together, a subway
system of metropolitan city, and the construction of
city highways and Apsan circular road will be helpful
in lessening traffic jams in Daegu.
Construction of the great waterway of the Nakdong River
and replacement of old water pipes provide citizens
with clear water. Construction of four sewage treatment
facilities on a large scale and five smaller ones will
increase the rate of sewage treatment of Daegu up to
almost 100%. Then, the water quality of the Geumho river
and the Nakdong river will be greatly improved and Sincheon
stream, with clear water, will be a good resting place
for citizens. We are also establishing modern art galleries,
international concert halls, opera houses, outdoor stages
and sculpture parks. We will do our best to develop
our cultural heritage to create the characteristics
of Daegu, enhancing our pride in living in beautiful
Daegu, graceful Daegu.
The Daegu Main Stadium, at Naewhan-dong, Suseong-gu,
will be a historic site. It will host the 2002 World
Cup and 2003 Summer Universiade. The two great sports
events make our hearts continue to beat fast! It's time
for us, Daegu citizens, to go for it, hand in hand.
