According to a statistical
research on all of the industry, the number of total
enterprises in Daegu in 1997 was 171,190, which
increased by 2,372 businesses (1.4%) from 168,818
enterprises in 1996. As for the industrial structure,
wholesale¡¤retail and consumer goods repairing service
takes up 34.3% (58,639 businesses) , hotels &
restaurant business, 19.2% (32,885) and manufacturing,
4.3% (24,458)

The number of employees decreased by 4.9% (36,440 persons)
to 699,868 people. As for industrial structure, manufacturing
is 25.6%, wholesale¡¤retail and consumer goods repairing
service, 21.0%, hotels & restaurant business, 10.2%
and construction, 7.2%
As for GRDP structure, the primary industry accounted
for 0.9%, the secondary industry, 23.6% and the tertiary
industry, 75.5% including lease service (14.9%), construction
(14.6%), wholesale¡¤retail (13.9%) of the £Ü16.7 trillion
worth of product in total.
As for the size of business in terms of total employees,
out of the total 171,190 enterprises, the number of
businesses with less than five employees is 87.7%, five
or more but less than 20 employees, 9.8%, 20 or more
but less than 300 persons, 2.5%, more than 300 persons,
0.1%. This shows 99.9% of the total runs small and medium
businesses.
